My thoughts: I absolutely loved this books. As an Air Force vet, I could identify with the difficulties of returning to civilian life. It's much harder than one imagines. I loved how Ms. Kendig wrote a way for these guys to continue serving their country. In this book, you meet all the guys of the Discarded Heroes series, but Max is front and center. Meet him and the rest of the guys and you'll soon fall in love.
The Blurb: "Soldiers all across the globe are returning home to their families after brutal tours of duty. They are discharged from the service. . .and on their own. Meet Max Jacobs, one of these discarded heroes, as he faces a wall of failure—in his career, his friendships, and his marriage. Failing again—this time to end his life—he is offered a thread of hope. Are covert government operations the answer for him, or will they only bring more danger and dissension upon his broken family?"
My Thoughts: Cowboy had a special place in my heart from book one. I loved seeing how he handled the flashbacks and life in covert operations. A gentleman whose also a cowboy is a win in my book.
The Blurb: "Step into the boots of a former Marine in this heart-pounding adventure in life and love. Colton “Cowboy” Neeley is a Marine trying to find his footing as he battles flashbacks now that he’s back home. Piper Blum is a woman in hiding—from life and the assassins bent on destroying her family. When their hearts collide, more than their lives are at stake. Will Colton find a way to forgive Piper’s lies? Can Piper find a way to rescue her father, trapped in Israel? Is there any way their love, founded on her lies, can survive?"
My Thoughts: Y'all this one wrenched at my emotions. I don't want to give anything away but tissues were a must for me! This book just seemed to improve on the already beloved series so I was hooked. But please remember the tissues if you're a crier.
The Blurb: "Embark upon a danger-laden mission within the pages of Ronie Kendig’s riveting Wolfsbane. Demolitions expert Danielle Roark thought escaping from a brutal Venezuelan general was a challenge. Now she’s charged with espionage and returned to the jungle where a new nightmare begins. Will Dani survive or become just another political pawn destined to be lost forever? Former Green Beret Canyon Metcalfe is disgusted with the suits on Capitol Hill. Still wrestling with the memories of a mission gone bad, he and Nightshade launch a mission to find Dani. Can Canyon rescue Dani, armed with nothing but raw courage?"
My Thoughts: Ahhh! I absolutely loved Firethorn. Just when I thought I picked a favorite hero, Ms. Kendig digs deeper with Riddell. How can you not admire a hero when he's been falsely convicted? Again, Ms. Kendig builds on the previous books and takes us readers on a explosive ride of military world and espionage. This book was bittersweet for me because it was the last in the series, but never fear...Ms. Kendig has more arsenal in her "rapid-fire fiction book cache."
The Blurb: "Former Marine Griffin Riddell had found purpose working with Nightshade—until he’s falsely convicted of a murder that plants him in a federal penitentiary. Is there anyone he can trust? Amid explosive confusion, covert operative Kazi Faron breaks Griffin out of a maximum-security prison. Then she delivers the death-blow—-the Nightshade team has been dismantled. Together Kazi and Griffin must rescue the others and figure out who’s behind the sabotage. Can two people overcome their mistrust of each other in time to save Nightshade?"
