I'm so excited to share my review of Dawn Crandall's The Cautious Maiden. It is the 4th book in the Everstone Chronicles. If you haven't read book 1, The Hesitant Heiress, you can read my review HERE. If you haven't read book 2, The Bound Heart, you can read my review HERE. And to read my review of book 3, The Captive Imposter, you can go HERE. Now on to the review!
Ms. Crandall is a master at historical romance! Y'all, I just can't even began to describe the great scenes in this book. I'm in a quandary right now, trying to figure out how to gush appropriately without giving away any spoilers. So I think I'm going to have to break a rule and give one spoiler because it's just too good not to. Scroll down if you don't want to know.
Vance Everstone, resident bad boy, has been redeemed. That sentence alone was enough to make me running for this book but when he stops to help Violet Hawthorne, whose hair has been chopped off, my heart took a dip and Vance became my favorite hero in the Everstone Chronicles. Y'all he pins up her hair to hide the fact it was shorn. Yep, I said it. Pinned. Up. Her. Hair.
I won't tell you where this falls in the novel but suffice to say when you read it, if you weren't already hooked, you'll be hooked until the very end. This book has to be my favorite because it discusses temptation and overcoming a past. This is probably the first book in the series where I can say I actually knew what the hero felt in the novel. Even though Ms. Crandall writes from the heroines first point of view, she managed to give me a glimpse into the heart of Vance Everstone and I couldn't have been happier.
Y'all, I read this book a month before this blog date. A month before! Bet you can't guess how many times I've read it again since then. It's just that good. To reread those heart-stopping-swoon-worthy-this-is-the-best-story-ever moments is something I enjoy. I don't do it often but there are authors who have earned a 6* rating from me, because if I can reread your story over and over, then you deserve 6 stars no matter everyone else's rating system.
Anywhoo, I think I digressed. Let me just say, if this is the last in this series than Ms. Crandall ended it with a bang. Life is now complete. Of course, I'll be on pins and needles until another wonderful novel from Ms. Crandall graces my bookshelf. But until then, I'll enjoy stopping by the Everstone's and reminding myself of why I fell in love with their stories.

*If Goodreads would allow it, this would be 6 stars for how many times I plan on rereading it.
**I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. This review is my honest opinion.
