He asked me to pull it out and I felt hesitant. If I pulled it and it came out, it would signify that he is growing. That he is getting older. And one day before I can blink, he'll be bigger than me and no longer in need of me to help him with something so simple.
What if I let his tooth hang there? He could remain my baby a little longer and we could pretend that he isn't getting older. But if I do so, his adult tooth may have trouble coming in.
How often do we hold onto something so small, placing more significance on it then it is meant to bear? God always has something bigger and better for us. Yet, we are blinded to it because we refuse to let go of the little things.
Any mother knows no matter the age of their child, the child will always remain their baby. With growth comes many more blessings. A better relationship, in-laws to embrace and welcome into the fold, and grandbabies.
God showed me through a little tooth that sometimes, I'm sheltering myself from something bigger that He has in store. And I'm reminded of the words in Ephesians 3:20-21:
