Thanks for stopping by. Today I'm interviewing Debra Gray-Elliott as she discusses her nonfiction novel, From Ashes to Pity into Beauty of Purpose.
Let's get started!
About the Book

About ten years ago, my heart was heavy with the burden I carried around after having an abortion at the age of sixteen. I have just started blogging and happened upon a Christian women’s website that accepted articles. I knew I needed an outlet for my pain and the Lord led me to write about my abortion journeys. Once I started writing, the Lord continued to place peace upon my heart and gave me the courage to turn the articles into a book to help other hurting women from the ashes of pity into the beauty of purpose.
Isn't that just like the Lord? Did you experience any setbacks while writing this? I know the enemy likes to attack when we are trying to glorify God.
Yes. It has been a long journey trying to get all the words together. I had my abortion on November 4th and every November 4th while writing the book, my mind wandered back to that traumatic time in my life and I would stop writing and did not want to move forward.
I'm thankful that you did continue writing. What do you hope this book will accomplish?
My hope for this book is that any woman, not just a woman who has had an abortion can heal from any traumatic experience in their life. Many women are still in the ashes of pity and need to find their beauty of purpose. It is my hope that the words in the book will encourage women to know that they are beautiful.
Beautifully stated! Writing nonfiction takes a different set of skills than fiction writing. What’s the one skill you honed in writing this story?
Personally, I think the one skilled I honed in writing this story is to always write what you know.
That's a good lesson. Are there other things you do to help those who are dealing with abortion?
Yes, I am also an inspirational speaker and I try to give women hope, healing, and hugs and let them know they are not alone.
What a blessing! How would you like readers to help support you in your writing journey?
Of course, I would love it if readers would purchase a copy of the book either for themselves or a friend. I am also offering anyone willing to write an honest review a free PDF or Mobi copy. Another way I would love readers to support my writing journey is through social media.
Thank you so much for being here. I pray this book lands in the appropriate hands.
